MR. WILLIAM F. OLIVER
Mr. William F. (Pete) Oliver, 87, of Hogansville, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Heartland Hospice in Riverdale.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Reverend Willow Heim and the Reverend Kenneth Linnell will officiate, with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
Born October 18, 1921, in Cordova, Alabama, Mr. Oliver was the son of the late John and Shadie Simpkins Oliver. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, having been aboard the USS Gannet when it was sunk in the Atlantic and then later serving in the Pacific Theatre. He lived in Hogansville most of his life and was retired from the research and development department of Lockheed Corp. Mr. Oliver was an avid golfer, was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and was a member of the Troup County Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Shirey Oliver of Hogansville; granddaughter, Lori Holloway and her husband, Tim Whitney of Atlanta and Lori's and Tim's miniature schnauzers, T-Bone and Billy Boy; great-grandson, William Holloway, Jr. of Newnan; half-sister, Vivian Lockhart of South Webster, OH; niece, Leslie and Daniel Carney, and their children, Shannon and Daniel, of Hawthorne, NY; and nephew, Dane Smith of Springfield, OR. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William F. (Bill) Oliver, Jr.; grandson, Bill Holloway; half-sister, Nellie Littlefield; and sister in-law and her husband, Betty and Wallace Smith.
Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 401 Granite St., Hogansville, GA 30230; or to Troup County Senior Center, 147 Ragland St., LaGrange, GA 30241.
