MR. JOEL HUGHES Mr. William Joel Hughes, 65, of Hogansville, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Mr. Hughes was born September 29, 1945, in Douglasville, son of the late William Howard Hughes and the late Jean Culver Hughes Williams. An Army veteran, he lived in Hogansville most of his life, was a member of the Hogansville Golf Club, and was employed for 35 years by Uniroyal and Industrial Specialty Fabrics, as a supervisor in the finishing plant. He was a longtime member and had served in all leadership positions of American Legion Post 152. Survivors include his granddaughter, Alyssa McCoy, who was the light of his life; his wife, Betty Hughes; step-son, Wayne McCoy; sisters and brothers in-law, Donna and Stanley Bowen, Ima and Mark Pike; brother and sister in-law, Michael and Penny Hughes; sister in-law, Carol Hughes; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leamon Hughes. Visitation and viewing will be held from 6 until 8 Tuesday night at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, followed by cremation. No formal service will be conducted and a gathering to celebrate Joel's life will be held at a later time at the Hogansville Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 152 in Hogansville. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: Visitation and viewing will be from 6 until 8 Tuesday night, March 22nd, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home Services: No formal service will be conducted and a gathering to celebrate Joel's life will be held at a later time at the Hogansville Golf Club
