William Fred Higgins

Mr. Fred Higgins, 84, of Hogansville, passed away, Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Higgins was born November 1, 1938, in the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County, son of the late William Grady Higgins and Bertha Velma Lee Higgins. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army, he retired from United Airlines after 39 years, working in Atlanta, Miami, and Orlando. He returned to Hogansville after retirement and served on the Hogansville City Council, the Hogansville Development Authority, and the Joint Development Authority of Meriwether County and the City of Hogansville. He was a member of Davidson Masonic Lodge #334 in Woolsey and was a member and deacon of Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville, where had been a member of the choir and had taught Sunday School. He loved United Airlines, enjoyed fishing, golfing, and gardening, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jane Higgins of Hogansville; son, Brian and Judy Higgins of Fayetteville; son in-law, Greg Fenda of Boynton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Corey Higgins, Claire Higgins, Jack Fenda, Jared Fenda; and sisters, Diane Golden of Newnan, Shelba and Tommy Webb of Warm Springs. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Fenda; and brothers, Bobby Joe Higgins and Mike Higgins.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, at Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville, with the Reverend Terry Rainwater officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday.
