MR. WILLIAM H. DAVIS, JR.
Mr. William H. (Bill) Davis, Jr., 73, of Mountville, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Davis was born February 23, 1941, in New Orleans, son of the late William Hurst Davis and Mary Stevenson Davis. A graduate of Mercer University, he lived in the Atlanta area for many years before returning to Hogansville and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hogansville. Bill's career at General Motors spanned 38 years, and he retired as a Quality Engineer in 2002. He loved all sports, but particularly football; therefore, he especially enjoyed the 7 years he spent as the Public Announcer for high school football at Memorial Stadium in Clarkston. He was perhaps most proud of running the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Arnold Davis of Mountville; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Aaron Evans of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Tripp and Jenny Davis of Norman, OK, Chuck and Hillary Davis of Monroe; step-son, Dr. James Burke and his wife, Angela of Huntsville, AL; sister, Mary Dolores Davis and her husband, Bert Meredith of St. Simons Island; grandchildren, Sandra Evans, Thomas Evans, Mary Davis, Maggie Davis, Anna Davis, Will Davis, Julia Burke, Joel Burke; nephews, Eric Snyder and Scott Snyder; many other well-loved nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and devoted caregiver, Faye Cheeks. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra White Davis.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, at the First Baptist Church of Hogansville. Dr. Clinton Hughes will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday night.
