Wendell Lamar Staley

.Mr. Wendell L. Staley, 76, of Sharpsburg, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Newnan Health and Rehabilitation. Born August 8, 1941, in Hogansville, Mr. Staley was the son of the late Leon Troba Staley and Sue Moon Staley Bowles. He had lived in Sharpsburg for 35 years, where he was appointed to the City Council in 2003 and served as Mayor for thirteen years before stepping down in May of this year. He had served on the board of Chatt-Flint Regional Development Commission, had served as District 4 vice-president of Georgia Municipal Association, and was a real estate broker and developer. He served as president of Hogansville Chamber of Commerce in 1988-89 and was instrumental in the construction of the Hogansville War Memorial. Mr. Staley was a long-time Boy Scout leader, served as a district commissioner, and was presented the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Staley of Sharpsburg; children, Gary and Karen Staley of Guntersville, AL, Jan and Tom Meunier of Orlando, FL, Greg Staley and Jamie Dawson of Houston, TX, Michael Staley of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Joseph Staley, Danny Staley, Robby Staley, Kristi Knowlton, Tiffany Meunier; great-grandchildren, Hanah Mueller and Kaelyn Grace Knowlton. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Wallace McAbee will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Thursday night. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or to a local humane society. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
