Mr. Tommy L. Thrower, 93, of Hogansville, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Thrower was born August 27, 1925, in Hogansville, son of the late Tom and Lizzie Dean Thrower, and was one of the first three Eagle Scouts in Hogansville. He retired as a Command Chief Master Sergeant after a long military career, which included service in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946, service in the Air Force Reserves from 1946 until 1950, and service in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1976. He was a veteran of World War Two, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Thrower returned to Hogansville, where he served one term as Mayor, served as manager of the Hogansville Golf Club, and served as director of the Franklin Housing Authority. He was always active in civic affairs and had been a member of the Hogansville Kiwanis Club, was a past-president of the Hogansville Optimist Club, and was a past commander of Hogansville American Legion Post 152. He also was a former board member of the Hogansville Housing Authority, the Troup County Airport Authority and the Troup Council on Aging.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise Thrower of Hogansville, and his daughter and son in-law, Terese and Roger Pointer of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Burson, Ethel O'Neal, Adell Hamilton, Leila Jackson, and Beatrice Dopp.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with military honors. The Reverend Terry Rainwater will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 until 4 Thursday afternoon.
