Mr. Thomas R. Winkles, age 93, of Hogansville, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026, at his home.
Mr. Winkles was born January 14, 1933, in Coweta County, son of the late Asbury Emory Winkles and Janie Peppers Winkles. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he owned and operated Thomas Auto Parts and Service in Hogansville during the 1960’s and 1970’s before making his home in Sulphur, LA for 27 years. He retired in Sulphur after owning and operating an equipment servicing company and returned to Hogansville in 2008. He was a member of Baptist Tabernacle Church in LaGrange, was a member of Gideons International, had taught automotive classes at West Georgia Technical College, and was a member of American Legion Post 186 in Greenville. Mr. Winkles enjoyed camping, was a licensed pilot, and loved flying.
Survivors include his wife, Lana Faye Winkles of Hogansville; daughter, Sondra Lee (Joe) of Hogansville; grandchildren, Jake Kee (Melissa), Dallas Kee, Andrea Winkles (Tim), Danny Winkles (Renee), Alyson McGhee (Jeremy), Stuart Lee (Alex), Sarah Miller, Brian Hudson (Becky), Cassie Bartlett, Tommy Hudson; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Patsy McDonald of Cedartown; and brother, William E. Winkles of Sharpsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Kee; and his sons, Andy Winkles and Russell Miller.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 9, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Pastor Greg Morris, Pastor Jimmy McMillian, and Alfred “Buster” McCoy will officiate and interment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 8.
