MR. THOMAS C. RAINEY
Mr. Thomas Camp "Tom" Rainey, Sr., 74, formerly of Luthersville and a resident of Twin Fountains Home in LaGrange for the past five years, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Hospice LaGrange.
Tom was born January 8, 1939 on McCollum Rd. in Newnan, one of six children born to Columbus and Mary Strickland Rainey. He was preceded in death by brothers, Columbus Rhudine Rainey and William Sanford Rainey; and is survived by sisters, Lilla Grace Rainey Fuller, Martha Jean Rainey Lassiter, and brother, Charles Ronald Reagin.
Tom loved life and loved to laugh. He spent the majority of his life maintaining a home place for all of his family, friends, children and grandchildren. He was the natural father of four children, the late Alicia Grace Rainey Williams and the late Shawn Thomas Rainey, and is survived by Thomas C. Rainey, Jr. and Michael Thomas William Rainey. However, over the years through an eternal binding of hearts and love, he became "Dad" to six other children, Dennis Earl Dewey, Catherine Buggay Thomas, Darlene Buggay Mann, Lisa McWhorter Smith, Christopher McWhorter, and Mariea McWhorter Campbell. He was a kind and fun-loving grandparent to 21 surviving grandchildren, and will forever be loved and remembered by countless other family members and friends who were blessed to have known him.
Tom attended Blackwell School and served his country in the U. S. Army. For many years, he commuted to Atlanta, where he owned and operated Airport Valet Parking. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and loved the outdoors. He will forever be remembered perched on a tractor plowing his fields, saddling a horse for a grandchild, driving everyone around the lake in his boat, or hosting many family gatherings at the farm, where he provided a loving home and inviting atmosphere. He touched many lives with his smile, assistance, generosity, and trademark "joke a minute" sense of humor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Clinton Hughes will officiate and interment will be in the Luthersville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Friday night.
The family would like to extend a fond thank you to Twin Fountains Home and Hospice LaGrange for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
