Thomas Ray Gruensfelder

Mr. Thomas R. Gruensfelder, 65, passed away at his residence in Dothan, AL on May 19, 2017. Born on November 2, 1951 Urbana, IL to the late Melvin H. & Willie Jo (Jody) Garrett Gruensfelder, Thomas was a graduate from Appalachian State University, Boone, NC with a degree in history and maintained a passion for western US and military history all his life. He served in the Army reaching the rank of 2nd Lt. prior to an honorable discharge. He spent most of his military and civilian life locally at Ft. Rucker. Though his physical health limited his mobility his mind was still acute and he could recall dates and incidences of many US military campaigns and other historical facts. It was a rare feat for someone to beat him in a game of Trivial Pursuit when the subject turned to historical matters. Private interment was in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to charities of the donor's choice. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
