The Reverend Rance Sprayberry, 87, of Greenville, SC and formerly of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020, at his home.
Mr. Sprayberry was born June 11, 1933, in West Point, son of the late James Ethridge Sprayberry and Ruth Bowen Sprayberry. A U.S. Army veteran of service during the Korean War, he was a 1952 graduate of LaGrange High School, was a 1959 graduate of LaGrange College, served a number of years as an industrial safety specialist, at Callaway Mills, Uniroyal, and Stran Steel. Rance owned and operated Sprayberry Hardware in Hogansville, GA. He later attended Candler School of Theology at Emory University and served churches in the North Georgia and the South Carolina Conferences of the United Methodist Church.
Mr. Sprayberry was an Eagle Scout, served as a Scout leader, and was named Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1962 by the LaGrange Jaycees. He was a resident of Hogansville, GA for many years, was a former member of the Hogansville City Council, served as Chairman of the Hogansville Library Board, and was a former member of the Hogansville Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Sprayberry; daughter and son in-law, Laura and Brian Tiffany; sons and daughter in-law, Mark Sprayberry, all of Greenville, SC, Kevan and Daphne Sprayberry of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Ellen Elizabeth Tiffany, Lee Ann Tiffany, Nathan Sprayberry; a great-grandson, Jayden Barada; and several nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Denny L. Sprayberry and Hugh O. Sprayberry.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 28, at Disciples United Methodist Church, 185 Riley Smith Road in Greenville SC. A memorial graveside service will be conducted at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange at later time.
