Sophie Coreen Perry was born November 6, 1924 in Dublin, GA to the late Coreen Braddy Perry and the late Lewis Frank Perry, Sr. She graduated from Dublin High School in 1942, and then went to work at Warner Robins Army Air Force Base where she met her husband, Tinley Perry.
Sophie and Tinley lived in many places throughout their 55 years of marriage. The military placed them in Texas, Alabama, South Carolina, and Japan to name a few. Wherever they lived, Sophie was very active in church and in the lives of her children.
Sophie and Tinley also lived for a long time in Macon, GA. As a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, Sophie served many years as treasurer. In 2008 she moved to Hogansville, GA to live with her daughter, Gail, and was a member of Hogansville First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Perry passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sophie was preceded in death by her son, Doyle Vincent Perry; sister, Elsie Smith (Joe) and brother, Lewis Frank "LF" Perry, Jr. (Betty).
Survivors include daughter, Gail Perry Jones; grandchildren, Christopher Jones (Kim), of Spartenburg, S.C., and Crystal Pope (Dennis), of Madisonville, TN,; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Griffith (Joe), of Moreland, GA, Nathan Pope, of Madisonville, TN, Gabrielle Jones and Zachary Jones, both of Spartenburg, S.C.; great-great-grandchildren, William Griffith and Savannah Griffith, both of Moreland, GA; brother, Mickey Perry (Nita), of Dublin, GA; sister, JoNell Smith (Allen), of Turin, GA and caretaker, Carrie Wilhite, of Grantville, GA.
Graveside services for Mrs. Perry will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, September 28, 2017 in Northview Cemetery, in Dublin, GA. Rev. Bob Williams will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road., LaGrange, GA 30240 or to Hogansville First United Methodist Church, PO Box 333, Hogansville, GA 30230.
Townsend Brothers Funeral Home of Dublin is in charge of arrangements. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home handled local arrangements in Hogansville.
