SIDNEY A. O'NEAL Sidney Awbrey O'Neal went to be with The Lord at 11:35 am on September 27, 2013, at his home in Newnan, surrounded by family and friends. Sid was resting peacefully after a two year battle with lung cancer during which he always maintained his positive outlook and witty sense of humor. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 30, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Elder Frank Buttrey and Chaplain Ken Rose will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 6 Sunday afternoon. Sid was born to Lovic and Bernie O'Neal on November 17, 1935, in Roanoke, AL and grew up in Hogansville with two sisters, Margaret Bass, who survives him, and Betty Williams. His childhood was filled with many great experiences including Boy Scouting, raising farm animals, learning to play golf and developing lifelong friendships. Attending high school at Georgia Military Academy was perfect preparation for college years that were spent at West Georgia College and Georgia Tech. After graduating in 1956, Sid spent four years in the U. S. Army serving in Germany. After returning from the military, Sid married Ruby Darleen Cook and started a career at 3M Company that lasted 33 successful years in Atlanta, Macon, and Little Rock, AR. A lifelong Baptist, he attended Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church in Hogansville. Sid is survived by his loving wife, Darleen; sons, Tony O'Neal and Dorothy of Woodstock, Phillip O'Neal and Vicki of Richmond, VA, Gary O'Neal and Sabrina of Snellville, Dan O'Neal and Sue of St. Louis, MO, eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. Sidney was a blessing to his family and friends throughout his fruitful life. He was a great influence on many people and was loved by all who knew him. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: from 2 until 6, Sunday afternoon, September 29th, at Claude A.
