Mrs. Shirley Bonner Thompson, 84, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange.
Mrs. Thompson was born April 18, 1938, in Heard County, daughter of the late James Wesley "Jack" Bonner and Jeanette Gaddy Bonner. A former resident of Hogansville, she lived in Warm Springs for more than 40 years before making her home in LaGrange in 2019. She retired from the Meriwether County School System and was a member of Community Chapel Church in Pine Mountain Valley, where she had been active in the WMU. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, loved to cook, enjoyed growing flowers, and especially loved to help others.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon and Richard Williams of LaGrange, Cindy and Rocky Janney of Warm Springs; sisters, Jean and Bill McWhorter, Nadine and Lawson Boyd; brother. J. W. and Susan Bonner, all of Hogansville; four grandsons, Chad and Tracey Williams, Jim and Margaret Williams, Brandon and Shannon Janney, Brett and Katie Janney; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Grady W. Thompson, and her sister, Jackie Langford.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6 in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Rick Lipp will officiate and interment will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Community Chapel Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
