Mrs. Sarah Carolyn Madaris, age 84, died at Piedmont Newnan Hospital July 25, 2022.
She was born in Newnan to Theron and Amy Jones and attended school at Starr High School in Sharpsburg. The family later moved to Tifton, where she graduated from Tifton High School, subsequently attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and worked as a switchboard operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company. After moving back to Newnan, she attended LaGrange College and worked for the engineering company that built the Plant Yates power facility for Georgia Power, and later became an employee of Georgia Power following the completion of Plant Yates. After retiring from Georgia Power, she worked at Coweta General Hospital as an admissions clerk.
Baptist by religion and Christian by faith, Carolyn was blessed with an extraordinary musical gift for playing the piano. She began teaching piano as a teenager. She served God and others by playing for local churches, funerals, weddings, and any other occasion needing a pianist. She knew and loved music so much that all anyone needed to do was to mention a song or parts of it or hum a bar and she could play it flawlessly. Carolyn will be remembered for her kindness and extreme generosity, giving to anyone who asked or perceived by her to be in need. She never turned anyone away.
Mrs. Madaris is preceded in death by her son, Christopher Neil Madaris; parents, Theron and Amy Jones; brother, James Jones; sisters, Marlene Cannon and Judy Smith. She is survived by her son, Sam Madaris and his wife Charis; brother, Eddie Jones; grandsons, Larry and Corey Madaris; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Barney Howard will officiate and interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
