Mrs. Sara McElroy Phillips, 87, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Phillips was born March 13, 1931, in Newnan, daughter of the late Clayton Howard McElroy and Molly Pike McElroy. She lived in many locations during her late husband's Air Force career, including Texas, Washington D.C., California, Alaska, South Carolina and Florida before retiring to Georgia. A member of Highland Baptist Church, she was a voracious reader, enjoyed bingo, and was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her son and daughter in-law, Sid and Reggie Phillips of Mountville; daughter, Debi Thompson of Hogansville; grandchildren, Luke and Danielle Thompson, Christina and Jonathan Moncus, and David Phillips; her beloved great-grandchildren; brother and sister in-law, Clayton and Billie McElroy; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney (Doc) Phillips who she married on January 29, 1950; grandson, John Michael Phillips; son in-law, James E. Thompson; sister, Martha Clark; and brother, Bobby McElroy.
The funeral service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Paul Baxter will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 until 5 Monday afternoon.
