Mr. Samuel Eugene Worthy, 75, of Hogansville and formerly of Lumpkin, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus. Mr. Worthy was born October 18, 1940, in Atlanta, son of the late Thomas William Worthy.and Lessie Lou New Worthy. Before recently making his home in Hogansville, he had lived in Stewart County since 1972, was retired from Western Union after 30 years of service, and had served as a part-time librarian at the Richland Public Library. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Lumpkin, loved poetry, enjoyed gardening and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Survivors include his wife, Mary Worthy of Hogansville; daughters, Katherine Payne of Virginia and Emily Stone of Warner Robins; son, Clay Worthy of Charlotte, NC; step-daughter, Cathy Seevers of Nicholasville, KY; steps-son, Cliff Dix of Tucker; sister, Beverly Good of St. Simons Island; and nine grandchildren. The family will hold a private memorial at a later time. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
