DR. SAMUEL D. PICKARD, SR.
Dr. Samuel D. Pickard, Sr., 80, of Valley, AL, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Lanier Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. (EST), Friday, December 31, at Fairfax United Methodist Church in Valley. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. (EST), Friday, at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery in Montgomery, AL.
The family will receive friends at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point, GA from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday night.
Dr. Pickard was born December 3, 1930, in Atmore, AL, son of the late William and Lila Avinger Pickard. He was a graduate of Birmingham Southern College, received a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Oral Roberts University. He was a member of and served as a minister for 45 years in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. After retiring from the active ministry in 1996, he had made his home in Valley and attended Fairfax United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Pickard of Valley; sons and daughters in-law, Bobby and Kathy Pickard of Cusseta and David and Kathy Pickard of Lanett; four grandchildren, Jim Pickard of New Orleans, Lauren Pickard of Lanett, Kerry Pickard, his wife Ashley and their son, Eli of Cusseta, and Kelli Pickard of Auburn.
