MRS. RUTH STARR LUNDIN
Ruth Adeline Starr Lundin, 94, of Powell, Tennessee passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 29, 2015, at Morning Pointe Assisted Living.
She was born in Greenville, Georgia on February 2, 1921, to the late Joseph Ten Starr and the late Georgia Marie Barnes Starr. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd W. Lundin and her grandson, Jed Lundin as well as her three brothers; Robert, Joseph and John Starr.
Survivors include her seven children; Bill Lundin (Janet) of Chattanooga, TN, Marie Williamson (Earl) of Cartersville, Joe Lundin (Sharon) and Erik Lundin (Linda) of Knoxville, TN, Chet Lundin (Janet) of Mascot, TN, Ted Lundin (Tracey) of Portland, OR; Sally Schiller (Joe) of Clarksville, TN; sister, Sarah Starr Hutchinson of Warm Springs; sister in-law, Norma Hoonan of Walnut Creek, CA; fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
As a young woman she owned and operated a beauty shop in Columbus, Georgia but gave that up to marry a World War II soldier and together they moved to Minnesota. But in 1951 they moved to the warmer climate of Knoxville, Tennessee where they raised their children.
In earlier years, Ruth was an active volunteer through the school P.T.A., the Girl Scouts, and St. Paul's Methodist Church. She was a creative homemaker who loved cooking for her family and friends, making quilts and costumes for her grandchildren, gardening and fixing hair. She was an avid reader and scrabble player who took an interest in political discussions. She lived her life with compassionate understanding for all she met, and she loved her children unconditionally.
In her later years she found great enjoyment watching the Lady Vols Basketball games on television and listening to the music of Willie Nelson.
Interment and a memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, in the Greenville Cemetery.
