MRS. RUTH L. BENNETT Mrs. Ruth Lowery Bennett, 93, of Hogansville, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Hospice LaGrange. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 13, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Reverend Max McCord officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Sunday night. Born April 8, 1918, Mrs. Bennett was a lifelong resident of Hogansville, and was daughter of the late Amos and Vesta Brand Lowry. She was a charter member of Highland Baptist Church, was proud that she was the longest living member of the church, and until becoming disabled, she was active in all church activities and the WMU. She was employed by Uniroyal, Inc. more than 50 years, and remained active in her retirement years, as she retired from her last position with LaGrange Memorial Library at the age of 88. Survivors include her son and daughter in-law, Barry and Melanie Bennett of LaGrange; granddaughter and her husband, Laurie and Michael Burkett of Hogansville; great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Burkett and Taylar Burkett, of Hogansville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Walter Bennett; sisters and their husbands, Pearl and Curtis Scott, Sara and Hulette Eley, Betty and Lewis Richey; and brothers and their wives, Howard Lee and Lorena Lowery, Bernard and Jewell Lowery, Paul and Winnie Lowery, Hugh and Hazel Lowery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice LaGrange or Highland Baptist Church. Condolences may be expressed at www.mckibbenfuneralhome.com Claude A.
