Richard S. Williams

Mr. Richard S. Williams, age 73, of LaGrange, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Richard was born May 29, 1953, in LaGrange, Georgia, the son of the late James Loy Williams and Bettie O’Neal Williams. He graduated from Hogansville High School and attended West Georgia College.

In 1972, Richard returned to Hogansville and began his career with his family’s business, Loy’s Office Supplies. Following the unexpected death of his father, Loy, in 1980, Richard became President of the company. He remained actively involved in the business throughout his life, later entrusting its leadership to his sons, Chad and Jim.

Richard was deeply committed to his community and to the business organizations in which he served. He was an active member of several office products and machine associations and served as President of the Georgia Office Products Association in 1984.

In 1988, Richard was appointed to the Board of Directors of CB&T/Synovus, where he served for 38 years. He retired as Chairman of the Board in January 2026. He was also an active member of the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce for many years and served as its President in 1995.

Richard’s commitment to community service extended to Diverse Power. In August 1996, he was appointed to the DiComm Board, a division of Diverse Power, where he served for six years. On September 30, 2002, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of Diverse Power. During his years of service, he held every executive position, including Vice President, Vice Chairman, Chairman, and President, while also serving on numerous committees.

While Richard accomplished much throughout his professional and civic life, his greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Williams; his sons, Chad Williams and his wife, Tracey, and Jim Williams and his wife, Margaret, all of LaGrange; and his grandchildren, Pate Williams, Brant Williams, Emma Williams, Andrew Williams, and Preston Williams. He is also survived by Tracey’s sons, PT Alford and his wife, Alyssa, Christian Alford, Curren Alford, and Cason Alford.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy Minton. He is survived by Peggy’s husband and their children, Lacy Hackney and her husband, Ben, and Marshall Minton, who held a very special place in Richard’s heart.

A service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, at First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange, with Reverend Paul Blair and Reverend Rick Lipp officiating. Private interment will be at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will greet friends at the church following the service.
