Mr. Richard J. Phillips, 82, of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Phillips was born June 7, 1942, in Newnan, son of the late A.J. Phillips and Helen Jacqueline Hensley Phillips. A U.S. Army veteran, he was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. He had made his home in Hogansville since 2005, was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Newnan, was a member of Hogansville American Legion Post 152, and retired from Eastern Airlines.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Phillips of Hogansville; daughters, Deanna Tuggle and Melissa Oakley (Joe), all of Newnan; grandchildren, Shannen Laster, Gauge Phillips, Hunter Oakley, and Reese Oakley; great-grandchildren, Reagan Laster and Bryson Laster; sister, Hilda McWhorter; step-daughter, Lisa Lynne Sanborn of Las Vegas, NV; step-sons, Richard James (Lisa) of Hoschton, Shawn Stanley (Elaine) of Palm Coast, FL, and Jeffrey Lee Stanley of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Castrow Phillips and his son, Richard Joseph Phillips, Jr.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 12, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Alton Midgett will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10.
