Mr. Kenneth Massengale Hughes, 62, of Luthersville, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Hughes was born March 21, 1954, in Gay and lived in Meriwether County most of his life. A veteran of two tours of duty in the U.S. Army, he served in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He was employed by Hugh Patton Surveying for a number of years and then by Carl Smith and Sons Building Materials in Turin. He was Baptist by faith, was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hughes of Luthersville; son Christopher Wayne Hughes of Griffin; step-son, William Shane Saylors of Hartwell; step-grandson, William Shane Saylors II; his mother, Bonnie Huffman of Barnesville; sister, Ann Claxton of Barnesville; brother, Eddie Hughes of California; step-brother, Mark Hughes; and step-sisters, Melinda Hughes and Libby Hughes. He was preceded in death by his adoptive father, John Hughes; birth father, Richard Kenneth Massengale; and brother, Jeff Hughes.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with the Reverend Scotty Fowler officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 Saturday afternoon.
