Mr. Richard Frank Dennis, 90, of Hogansville, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange.
Mr. Dennis was born July 8, 1931, in Waresville in Heard County, son of the late Henry Grady Dennis, Sr. and Maude Cooper Dennis. He joined Franklin Baptist Church in 1943 and was a lifetime member, teaching Sunday School, serving as assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and supporting his church in many ways.
Mr. Dennis graduated from Heard County High School in 1948, entering Berry College at Rome the same year. After two years at Berry, he attended Southern College of Pharmacy (later known as Mercer University), graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist in Atlanta for Lane Rexall Drug Company, later becoming its manager. In 1955, he returned to Franklin and acquired the Lane Rexall Drug Company, which he renamed Dennis Rexall Pharmacy and operated until 1979. In 1982, he formed Dennis Realty, later transferring ownership to his youngest son, Sanford (Sandy) Dennis.
In 1952, he married Katherine Kirby, of Atlanta, and they made their home in Franklin, In 1962, Richard and Katherine acquired a farm in Troup County and built a new home and named their farm "Greenover Farms". He had many interests including farming, where he produced Angus Cattle and Tennessee Walking Horses, was an avid golfer, enjoyed golfing with his senior friends, and also enjoyed bird hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his sons, Richard F. Dennis, Jr. and Sanford K. (Sandy) Dennis and his wife Teresa Dennis; daughter, Janet Dennis Jackson, all of Hogansville; grandchildren, Adam Monteith, Gavin Dennis, Madison Dennis; great-grandchildren, Graysen Monteith, Landyn Monteith, Pheona Monteith; and sister, Jackie Richardson of Franklin.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange, with the Reverend Jason Ritter officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin Baptist Church.
