Mr. Richard E. Batchelor, 74, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Batchelor was born April 24, 1948, in Troup County, son of the late Steve Ellis Batchelor and Minnie Lee Gordy Batchelor. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was awarded a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts and later served on the White House Honor Guard. He was then employed as a truck driver most of his working life, retiring from Fast Food Merchandisers. Mr. Batchelor was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and Elm City Masonic Lodge, and was known to have a generous heart and to never meet a stranger. He was an avid Alabama fan, enjoyed camping, fishing, and riding the back roads, but especially loved being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Batchelor of LaGrange; sons and daughters in-law, Ronnie and Lorraine Batchelor of LaGrange, Rickey and Cindy Batchelor of Auburn, AL; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Wright of Villa Rica and Sue Elliott of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Batchelor; sister, Lillian Ross; and brothers Steve Batchelor, Billy Joe Batchelor, and an infant brother.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 24, at Friendship Baptist Church on 106 North Barnard Ave in LaGrange. The Reverend Tom Kennedy will officiate and interment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
