Mr. Richard L. "Rickey" Banks, 64, of the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Banks was born April 3, 1958, in Ft. Benning, son of the late Lewis Banks and Johnnie Mae Elder Banks Melton. A multi-faceted entrepreneur, he owned and operated Highway 29 Grocery for many years, owned and operated International Café for fifteen years, and owned and operated Banks Logging for thirteen years. He loved to cook and have get-togethers and was known as a jack-of-all trades.
Survivors include his son and daughter in-law, Kevin and Susan Banks of Lone Oak; grandchildren, Mary Parker, Claire, Silas; sisters, Susan and Carl Petty and Jeannie Scruggs, all of Newnan, Betty Fisher of Kannapolis, NC, Janice and Terry Collier of Hogansville, Judy and Terry Waddell of Woodbury; brother, Mickey Banks of Hogansville; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Banks and his sister, Patty Moore.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Jody Mitchell will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
