Mr. Richard E. Adams, 96, of the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County and formerly of Munster, Indiana, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Adams was born May 3, 1920, in Whiting , Indiana, son of the late Merrill Blanchard Adams and Lillian Eberle Adams. A veteran of service in the U.S. Navy during World War Two, he was a member of the American Legion for 61 years and a member of Post 186 in Greenville at the time of his death. He was a retired millwright and carpenter and was a member of Millwright and Erectors Union Local 1076 in Indiana for 76 years. A resident of Lone Oak since 1985, Mr. Adams was a member of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Claire Adams of Lone Oak; sons, David R. Adams of Indiana, Thomas R. Adams and his wife Katherine of Lone Oak, Craig S. Adams of Lone Oak, Jeffrey M. Adams of Calumet City, IL; granddaughter, Amanda Adams of Florida; and step-grandchildren, Robert Whitlock of Newnan, Rachel Whitlock of Lone Oak. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Michael McFarlin will officiate and interment will be in Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery, with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Tuesday night. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, or to Hospice LaGrange. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
