Rev. William C. "Bill" Smith

REV. WILLIAM C. "BILL" SMITH The Reverend William C. "Bill" Smith, 79, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Hospice LaGrange. Born July 19, 1942 in LaGrange, Rev. Smith was the son of the late Quinton "Pete" Smith and Doris Estes Smith. He was an Air Force Veteran and retired from Interface in 2008. Spending his life ministering, Rev. Smith had served as the minister of music at East Vernon Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. He was a former pastor at Glenn Baptist and Reed's Chapel, and was the pastor at Union Baptist Church for 20 years until his retirement in 2021. Rev. Smith was a draftsman and self-taught engineer. Over the years, Rev. Smith helped many churches in the area with their building projects by drawing up plans for new buildings, additions, and remodels. He could fix and build anything and always had a project to work on, including building his own casket. Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, Donna and Ken Jeter of LaGrange; son and daughter in-law, Bo and Jean Smith of Roanoke, AL; grandchildren, Kimberly and Blake Sherwood of Freeport, FL, Miriam and Tyler Reynolds of Auburn, AL, Taylor and Jacob Logan of Atlanta; and great-grandchildren, Grant Sherwood, Owen Sherwood, and Blakely Sherwood. In addition to his parents, Rev. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Burdette Smith, step-mother, Louise Jones Smith, and a brother James K. "Jim" Smith. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 13, at the graveside in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Mr. Bo Smith officiating.
