Rev. James L. Moon, Sr.

Rev. James L. Moon, Sr., 67, of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.

Rev. Moon was born January 17, 1956, in LaGrange, son of the late J D O'Neal Moon and Patricia Haynes Moon Carlisle. A resident of Troup County most of his life, he was a 1975 graduate of Hogansville High School. He retired after serving 26 years as pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in LaGrange, and also enjoyed cutting grass, both as a business and to assist those in need. He enjoyed fishing, loved watching wrestling and supporting the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Moon; son, James (Lum) Moon, Jr. and his wife Heather; daughter, Jessica Jones and her husband Wayne; sister, Janice Long and her husband Keith, all of Hogansville; grandchildren, Christian Moon (Emily), Jonathan Moon (Haven), Jay Jones, Jonah Moon, Jackson Jones, Jordan Jones, Gracie Jones; great-grandchildren, Juli Moon and Langston Moon; an aunt and uncle; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 19, at Friendship Baptist Church in LaGrange. Brother Fred Kindhart will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday.
