Phyllis Renea Bailey Elkins, 58, of Prattville, AL and formerly of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, AL.
Mrs. Elkins was born September 17, 1963, in Franklin, daughter of the late Elizabeth Brown Smith and Arthur Ernest "Buddy" Smith, Jr. A resident of Hogansville most of her life, she was Baptist by faith and was a talented seamstress who enjoyed making clothing and blankets for her grandchildren. She was active in the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years and served as the primary caregiver for her son, Michael Bailey, who died in 2003 of muscular dystrophy.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Elkins of Prattville, AL; sons, Greg Bailey of Prattville, James Randy Bailey and his wife Britney of LaGrange; sisters, Amy Chapman and Monique Bonner, both of Hogansville; seven grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her son, Michael, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Kim Smith Shirah and Kandy Smith; and her brother, Greg Smith.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 6, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Pastor Alan Kirk will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday.
