Mr. Paul D. Joy, 79, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Joy was born October 18, 1939, in Cassadaga, NY, son of the late Horace and Carrie Green Joy. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army from 1958 until 1961, he lived in Troup County most of his life and retired as a machinist from OZ Gedney. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, had served as a volunteer at West Georgia Medical Center, was involved at the Active Life Center in LaGrange, and loved nature, gardening and bird-watching. A member of 2-Cylinder Tractor Club in Carrollton, he enjoyed restoring tractors and had won several trophies for his work.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Joy of LaGrange; son, David Joy of Sharpsburg; daughter, Penny Joy Hyatt of Newnan; step-daughters, Robin Dunlap Cofield and her husband Marty of LaGrange, Angie Dunlap Cassell and her husband Lamar of Franklin; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Livermore of New York; step-sisters, Lynn Bowersox of Hawaii, Susan Josephson and Jan Spinler of New York; and step-brothers, Sam Spaulding and Dennis Ridout, both of New York.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 21, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Betty Jean Bowers will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday night.
