Pamela Burton Riddle of Hogansville, GA passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the age of 78.
Pamela "Pam" was born November 25, 1946, in Asheville, NC, to the late Harold Proffitt and Doris Gunn Burton. She attended Cane River High School in Burnsville, NC where she met the love of her life, William Samuel "Sam" Riddle. After high school, she attended East Tennessee State University where she earned a Bachelor of Education. Pam and Sam married in January of 1966, and in May of 1969, they welcomed their only child, daughter Sammee. In the fall of 1969, Pam began her career in Riverdale, GA where she taught French, Spanish and English. In 1974, she and Sam returned to North Carolina where they both taught in Buncombe County. In the summer of 1981, they moved back to Georgia and continued their careers in education with the Fayette County School System.
Pam earned a Master's degree from Western Carolina University, a Specialist degree from West Georgia College, and a Doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University. During her time with the Fayette County School System, she was a high-school foreign language teacher, a high-school assistant principal, an elementary principal, and Assistant Superintendent of Education. She retired in 2005 after 36 years in education.
Pam was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who gave those around her the gift of unconditional love, guidance, and support. Her genuine kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will forever be remembered for the selflessness and warmth she showed to friends and strangers alike.
Her faith was the foundation of her strength, and the grace she showed through both joyous and difficult times will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Pam is survived by her husband, Sam Riddle of Hogansville; daughter, Sammee Rivers and her husband Chris Rivers of Newnan; granddaughter, Maggie Rivers, also of Newnan; and sisters, Danah Tipton of Burnsville, NC and Patricia Burton of Lynn, MA.
A reception to celebrate the life of Pam Riddle will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1 Young Avenue, Newnan, GA 30263. There will be a special time of remembrance at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Bridging the Gap (BTG Community Outreach, Inc.), Mercy Ships or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
