MR. NORMAN J. ROWE Mr. Norman Jackson Rowe, 87, of Meriwether County, Georgia, died Monday, April 7, 2014 at his home. Born September 19, 1926 in Rocky Mount, Georgia, Norman was the son of the late Raymond James and Bertha Claire Rowe. He was born and raised in this very same county, having graduated from Luthersville High School in 1944 along with his classmate and sweetheart, Gina, his wife and lifetime partner of 65 years. Norman served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a landing craft navigator in the Pacific Campaign. After the war, he furthered his military career by joining the Air Force, ranking Chief Master Sergeant before his retirement in 1973 having served his country for 30 years. Upon returning to his family home place, Mr. Rowe was very active and continued to serve his community as a Meriwether County Commissioner, a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the Lions Club. He was also a Mason, a Shriner, and member of the American Legion. Mr. Rowe was a lifetime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Rocky Mount where he proudly served for many years as a deacon, the treasurer and on the cemetery committee. Survivors include his children, Elizabeth (Tony) Zoumberis of Warner Robins, Nancy Franco of Sacramento, CA, Norman (Kelly) Rowe, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Barbara Lanier of Newnan, Carol (Van) Lowry of LaGrange, and Kathleen (Allen) Walton of Woodbury; a sister-in-law, Gloria Rowe; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death just two weeks earlier by his beloved wife and soul mate, Georgina; a grandson, Paul Zoumberis; his brother, Mickey Rowe. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 10, at Bethel Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. The Reverend Sam Fordham, the Reverend Richard Campbell, and Mr. Alfred (Buster) McCoy will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, or charity of your choice. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: from 5 until 7 Wednesday, April 9th, at Claude A.
