Mr. Nelson McCoy, 88, of the Rocky Mount Community of Meriwether County, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020, at his home.
Mr. McCoy was born September 2, 1931, in Rocky Mount, son of the late John and Lizzie Cook McCoy. He was a lifelong resident of Rocky Mount and was longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church, having served as a deacon for many years. Mr. McCoy served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Playtex in Newnan.
Survivors include his wife, Carleen McCoy of Rocky Mount; sons and daughters in-law, Jeff and Tanya McCoy of Rocky Mount, Darrell and Jean McCoy of Greenville, and Randall and Bonnie McCoy of Rocky Mount; sisters, Kitty Smith of Moreland, Eleanor Garner and Gwen Gradolph, both of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 2, at Bethel Baptist Church. The Reverend Kenny Heinzel and the Reverend Bobby Boswell will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 Saturday night.
