Minister J. Robert Brooks

Minister J. Robert Brooks, 90, of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016. Mr. Brooks was born April 14, 1926, in Chambers County, Alabama, son of the late Leslie and Leola Stevens Brooks. A veteran of service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War Two, he served in Okinawa and received the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Florida School of Preaching and served as a minister in the Church of Christ, having served a number of churches in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. He was also a retired rural mail carrier and was a former member of the Hogansville Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Eva Brooks of Hogansville; sons and daughters in-law, Bobby and Brenda Brooks of Carthage, NC, Tommy and Carol Brooks of Plant City, FL, Samuel and Bee Brooks of LaGrange; step-children, Steven Johnson of Hogansville, Marshall Johnson and his wife Beth, Tina Hull and her husband Andy, all of Franklin; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lillie Brooks, and his granddaughter, Tracie Brooks. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, at the Hogansville Church of Christ. Ministers Brad Crider and Gerald Romine will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc., 410 Allied Dr., Nashville, TN 37211. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
