MRS. MILDRED N. GARNER
Mrs. Mildred Nichols Garner, 88, of Newnan, died Friday, November 18, 2011, at Newnan Health and Rehabilitation.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, at New Hope Baptist Church at Newnan. The Reverend Chuck Novak and the Reverend Searcy Jackson will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Monday, and the body will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Garner was born May 25, 1923, in Spartanburg, SC, daughter of the late Perry Everett Nichols and the late Tilda Scruggs Nichols. She married Marion Barge Garner, Sr. on February 13, 1943 and moved to Hogansville in 1944, when Mr. Garner was sent to the European Theater of Operations during World War Two. She had made her home in Newnan since 1966, was active in church work, and was a member of Arnco Baptist Church. Mrs. Garner was a nurse for 23 years, working three years at Newnan Hospital and retiring in 1988 from Peachtree Regional Hospital after 20 years of service.
Survivors include her sons, Marion Barge Garner, Jr. and his wife, Valeria, of Wedowee, AL, and Paul Thomas Garner of Newnan; granddaughters, Gayle Garner Gordon and Lynn Garner Coe; great-granddaughter, Torrie Gordon; and great-grandsons, Levi Coe and Ethan Coe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arnco Baptist Church.
Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
