MRS. MARY NELL THOMPSON Mrs. Mary Nell Arrington Thompson, 67, of LaGrange, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, at Callaway Baptist Church in LaGrange. The Reverend Brad Thompson and the Reverend David Murphy will officiate and interment will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night. Mrs. Thompson was born May 9, 1946, in Roanoke, Alabama, daughter of the late Ervin Joseph Arrington and Lela Edmondson Arrington. A Baptist by faith, she lived in Troup County most of her life and served fifteen years with the Georgia State Patrol, starting as a communications officer and then becoming the first female trooper in Georgia. Survivors include her husband, Roy Thompson of LaGrange; brother, Archie Arrington and his wife, Vivian, also of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ervin Arrington, Jr., Arnold Arrington, Sam Arrington, and Orbie Arrington. Claude A.
