Mary Frances Mitchell

Mrs. Mary Frances Mitchell, 84, of Monroe and formerly of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Park Place Nursing and Rehab in Monroe.

Mrs. Mitchell was born December 13, 1938, in Newnan, daughter of the late Thomas Britton Jackson and Frances Watson Jackson. A resident of Hogansville most of her life, she was a 1957 graduate of Hogansville High School, attended Perry Business School, and was later employed at Sears, Coweta General Hospital and Warm Springs Foundation Hospital before leaving the workforce to raise her family. Mrs. Mitchell was an excellent seamstress who also crocheted and did delicate cross-stitch. She enjoyed working outside with flowers, especially loved growing roses, was a true Southern cook, and enjoyed baking cakes. She was a longtime member of Corinth United Methodist Church and was a woman of God who loved her Lord.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Eugene Powers, Jr. (Sonya) of Covington, Tyre Jeffrey Powers (Vickie) of Hogansville; sister, Alice Williams of Grayson; niece, Sierra Allen (Scott) of Grayson; grandchildren, Jennifer Borders (Brian) of Newnan, Lauren Rakestraw (Marcus) of Hogansville, Marianna Powers of Macon, and Richie Helton of Hogansville, fourteen great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Mitchell.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Frank Powers will officiate, and interment will be in the Corinth Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Saturday.
