MR. M. P. (JR.) SMITH
Mr. Malcolm P. (Jr.) Smith, 86, of Hogansville, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Hospice LaGrange.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Bill Smith will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Thursday night.
Born September 18, 1925, in Tallassee, AL, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Malcolm and Pearl Culberson Smith. He served as a paratrooper in the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne during World War Two, had lived in Hogansville since 1952, and retired as grading superintendent from Holliday Construction Co. after 35 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Spradlin Smith of Hogansville; daughter, Sherry Smith of Sevierville, TN; sons and daughters in-law, Ronnie and Linda Smith, Mark and Leigh Smith, all of Hogansville; sisters, Mary Williams of Manchester, Ella Perrone of Shiloh, Brenda Clark of Thomaston; brothers, Billy and Betty Smith of Bainbridge, Jimmy Smith of Warm Springs, Wayne and Sherry Smith of Newnan; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice LaGrange, 1510 Vernon Rd., LaGrange, GA 30240.
Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
