Mr. Luther Franklin "Frankie" Smith, Jr., 79, of Griffin, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born September 4, 1944, in Hogansville, son of the late Luther Franklin Smith and Evelyn Davis Smith Lunsford. He had a 51-year career in the pre-stress concrete industry and for many years was the plant manager and built the plant for Pre-Stress of the Carolinas, a division of Lane Construction. Mr. Smith had instrumental roles in many construction projects throughout the Southeast, including the construction of the Southwest By-Pass and the Talmadge Bridge in Savannah, the Duke Energy Building in Charlotte, NC, the Gulf Life Building in Jacksonville, FL, and beams for bridges over the downtown connector at the Georgia Capitol.
He was a member of New Beginning Baptist Church in Senoia, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf, but most of all he loved being with his family and grandchildren. He loved making ice cream and was known to be a "peach connoisseur."
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Smith of Griffin; son, Kenneth Franklin Smith and his wife Teresa, also of Griffin, Jeffery Douglas Smith and his wife Michelle of Thomaston; grandchildren, Joshua Matthew Smith (Monica), Daniel Franklin Smith (Victoria), Adam Luke Smith (Candace) and Kristin Nicole Estes (Jonathan); ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Dr. Davis A. Smith (Carol) of Marietta, Martin Anthony. "Tony" Smith (Tammy) of Newnan, and Timothy Sidney Smith (Ann) of Grantville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at New Beginning Baptist Church in Senoia. His Son, The Reverend Ken Smith, will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service.
