Louise Jones Smith

MRS. LOUISE J. SMITH Mrs. Louise Jones Smith, age 90, of LaGrange, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at her home. Born August 24, 1923, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Newton Albert Jones and Clara Reed Jones and attended Gray Hill School and West Point Business College. She was a resident of LaGrange most of her life, was employed as a bookkeeper for Callaway Mills and the Elm City Division of Milliken and Co. from 1942 until her retirement in 1989, and was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square, where she was active in the WMU, the Senior Adult Choir, and the Merrymakers. Mrs. Smith was a volunteer for West Georgia Health Auxiliary from 1989 until 2012, giving more than 4800 hours of service, and had also served as a volunteer at Callaway Gardens. Survivors include her sons, William C. Smith and his wife, Marie of LaGrange, James K. Smith and his wife, Betty of Columbus; sister in-law, Jo Golden Jones of Marietta; five grandchildren, Donna and Ken Jeter, Kelly and Carolyn Smith, Charles (Bo) and Jean Smith, Jeff and Cindy Smith, and Karen Smith; six great-grandchildren; two nieces, Cindy Jones Crowder and her husband, Bob, and CeCe Jones Ellis and her husband, Bob; a great-nephew and three great-nieces; and five great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Q. V. (Pete) Smith; and her brother, Newton Albert Jones, Jr. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at First Baptist Church on the Square. Dr. Paul Baxter will officiate and interment will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Welcome Center of the church from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Georgia Health Auxiliary or to West Georgia Hospice Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
