MRS. LILLIAN MARTELL
Mrs. Lillian Martell, 75, of Hogansville, died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at West Georgia Medical Center.
The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, December 12, at First Baptist Church of Hogansville, with the Reverend Clinton Hughes and Dr. Wallace Wheeles officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 14, at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park in Tampa, FL.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Martell was born January 20, 1937, in Tampa, FL, to Osbon and Jocelyn Elkes. She attended Hillsborough High School in Tampa and was a member of Seminole Heights Presbyterian Church, where she met her husband of 57 years, Gerald "Jerry," whom she married in 1955. She loved the Lord and was most notably a wife and homemaker, dutifully following Jerry around Florida and Georgia as a minister's wife. She worked as a secretary, administrative assistant, and was particularly proud of earning her real estate broker's license and subsequently working for Century 21. Her interests included family, sewing, crafts, and geneology. She was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and served as Elder of the Governor William Bradford Colony in St. Petersburg, FL. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville and loved singing in the choir. She also began her own business, Vee's Vintage Designs, sewing unique vintage aprons for her customers.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Martell, of Hogansville; two brothers, Osbon "Buster" Elkes and Raymond and Florene Elkes of Tampa; four children, Glenn and Lori Martell of Minneapolis, MN, Shirley Jerman of LaGrange, Stephen and Patricia Martell of Austin, TX, and Charles and Diane Martell of Ocala, FL; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Lynn Martell; sister in-law, Julie Elkes; niece, Diana Elkes; and son in-law, Jim Jerman.
