Mr. Lee James (Pete) Hanner, Jr., 70, of LaGrange, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, 2018.
Pete was born March 11, 1948, to Lee and Latrell Hanner and served with distinction in the United States Army Infantry (1/27 Wolfhounds) during the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart for valor. He was a talented writer and an avid music lover. He was the beloved father to three children and he taught each of them to champion the cause of the underdog. He modeled generosity, even when the personal cost was high, and he insisted that his children value people over things, that they love deeply, and that they forgive always.
Pete was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brenna Marie Traylor, and is survived by his wife, Susan Hanner; daughter, Angela Hanner Montondo, son in-law Christian Montondo, and grandson Isaiah (Izzy) Montondo; daughter, Karen Hanner; son, Michael Hanner, daughter in-law Amanda Hanner and granddaughters Aurora Hanner and Carra Bella Hanner; brothers, Terry Hanner, Richard Hanner, Eddie Hanner; sister, Toni Durham; numerous nieces and nephews; many friends; and his beloved dog, Bo.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with military honors. Pastor Hope Taylor will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night.
