Larry G. Cook

December 9, 1947 — June 22, 2016

Mr. Larry Gordon Cook, 68, of Sugar Hill and formerly of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at his home. A resident of Hogansville most of his life, Mr. Cook was a 1966 graduate of Hogansville High School and was a member of Highland Baptist Church He had been employed by the Hogansville and Newnan Police Departments, retired from the Franklin Police Department, and also retired from the Troup County Board of Education. He moved to Sugar Hill in 2011. He was preceded in death in 2009 by his wife, Janice Whitten Cook, and together, they had operated antique businesses. Larry was a well-known artist and specialized in restoring early century gliders. He had an enduring ability to find a use for any discarded item and was an avid storyteller who had a story for any occasion and knew how to keep the conversation going. Survivors include his loving wife, Janet Brown Cook of Sugar Hill; sons, Clayton and Crystal Cook of Roanoke, AL, Joseph A. Cook of Sugar Hill, and Ronald Cook of Newnan; grandchildren, Craig McPherson of Mobile, AL, Alex Cook and Emily Cook, both of Roanoke; sisters, Sara Hamilton and the late Coleman Hamilton of Newnan, Sybil and Robert Harrison of Hogansville; and brothers, Jimmy and Frances Cook of Warner Robins, Billy and Marilyn Cook of Millbrook, AL; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Mozelle Norwood Cook. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 26, at Highland Baptist Church in Hogansville, with the Reverend Terry Rainwater officiating. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall from 1 until 3 Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the donor's favorite charity. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
