Mr. Larry Michael Balas, 75, of Senoia, affectionately known as Popi, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Balas was born May 15, 1942, in Lewistown, Montana, son of the late George and Florence Jane Schultheis Balas. A longtime resident of Lewistown, he lived in Yakima, Washington, for 20 years before making his home in Georgia in 2013. He was a veteran of service in the National Guard, and was employed by Electrolux Corporation for 35 years and Integrity Builders for seven years before his retirement. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima and was a benevolent member and past president of the Eagles Club of Lewistown. An avid bowler, he loved to hunt, was better at fishing, and was a great pool-shooter and cribbage player.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Balas of Senoia; his children, Randy and Brooke Balas of Surprise, Arizona, Marney and Greg Spurgin of Yakima, Washington, Lynsey and Luke Tyler of Senoia, Amy and Dave Conner of Nampa, Idaho, Heidi and Randy Nye of Caldwell, Idaho; brother, Ron and Kathy Balas of Lewistown, Montana; and grandchildren, Savannah Balas, Aliyah Balas, Josslyn Spurgin, Brianna Spurgin, Alayna Tyler, Noah Zane Tyler, Ayden-Cane Tyler, Terry Austin Tyler, Parker Nye, Grady Nye, Johanna Nye, Isaac Nye. He will be loved and missed by close friends, Martha Lehmann and Dave and Shirley Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Balas.
The family will host a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, at Grace Covenant Worship Center in Hogansville, with Pastor Jim Weathers and Pastor Greg Spurgin officiating.
