MRS. KATE SMITH
Mrs. Sallie Kate Smith of Cleveland, formerly of Hogansville, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 following an extended illness. She was 94.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Reverend Clinton Hughes officiating.
Mrs. Smith was born August 24, 1914, in Heard County, GA daughter of the late Henry Andrew and Claudia Eley Jackson. She was a graduate of Centralhatchee High School and lived in Hogansville for many years, where she owned and operated Royal Beauty Shop and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She had lived in Cleveland since 1985.
Survivors include her son and daughter in-law, Richard and Janice Smith of Cleveland; sisters, Vesta Jackson of Newnan, Agnes Ward of West Point, Louise Olson of Tampa, FL; sister and brother in-law, Bonnie and Sonny Echols of Bowdon; brothers and sisters in-law, James and Ellie Jackson of Bradenton, FL, and Charles and Ruth Jackson of Douglasville; sisters in-law, Margie Jackson and Joyce Jackson of Franklin, and Edna Helton of Carrollton; grandchildren, Russ and Tracy Smith, Kathy Smith, and Jennifer and Johnny Saxon; a great-granddaughter, Emma Abernathy; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband Russell Smith; brothers, Dewey, G. W., Ray, Harold, and Henry, Jr. Jackson and sister, Alma Martin.
