Julia Gray Hammett of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away on August 29, 2023.

Julia was born on April 21, 1941 in Montgomery, Alabama to parents James S. Gray and Emma S. Gray. She was raised in Clinton, South Carolina, and attended and graduated from Presbyterian College where she met her husband, Herbert Hammett. She enjoyed vocal training and participating in choirs. After settling in Spartanburg, South Carolina, she received her Master's Degree from Converse College and taught French in the Spartanburg Public School system. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and raising her family.

Julia is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Herbert Hammett of Fayetteville, Georgia, daughter-in-law, Deborah Loutzenheiser Hammett (wife of Edward) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and sister-in-law Nancy Hammett James of Washington, Georgia. She is survived by her sister, Emma Gray Frye (Joe) of Charlotte, North Carolina, sister-in-law Margaret Hammett Hanson (Bill) of LaGrange, Georgia; children Edward Gray Hammett of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Leslie Hammett Jones of Fayetteville, Georgia; grandchildren James Matthew Loutzenheiser of Smyrna, Georgia, Edward Gray Hammett Jones, James Somerville Jones, and Emma Catherine Jones of Fayetteville, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews

There will be a private ceremony at a later date.
