Joyce Lavonia Hamilton Cleveland, age 90 of Elberta, AL, passed away peacefully during the night of May 3, 2023, two days after celebrating her 90th birthday. She passed away some time in the night in the comfort of her own bed, which was her desire. Her passing will leave a void in the lives of her family, friends and neighbors. Joyce suffered a stroke in February, worked hard in the rehab facility and home based rehab to recover, and was making progress. She fought a good fight.
She was the first-born to Roy and Adele Hamilton and was blessed with a good faithful husband, Douglas Maston Cleveland, and three loving children who adored and admired her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doug and their three children, Scott, Kevin and Kimberly. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brother and sister-n-law, Rick and Ramona Hamilton; her nephews and grand nephews and nieces, David and Stephanie Hamilton and Cheyenne and AJ Stathem, Shane, Katie and Jaiden Hamilton; cousins, Jackie Cook, Jeanette Johnson, Kirby McCartney, Lavonia Jackson, Phyllis Whaley, Joey Thomas, Randy Thomas, Terry Thomas, Jimmy and Gene Burson, Terese and Roger Pointer, Kitty Dopp, Aunt Eloise Thrower, Glenn and Paul Yarbrough; and many close friends in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
Besides being a caregiver to her grandfather, mother, three children, relatives and several close friends, she loved to travel and traveled to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and Niagara Falls, just to mention a few. She cruised to the Bahamas, but her favorite travel destination was Historic Williamsburg where she visited on several occasions.
After moving from Easley, SC to help take care of Rick and Ramona Hamilton in Elberta, she enjoyed riding on the pontoon boat to site-see, watch the sun set over Wolf Bay, and going to eat at the many restaurants along the Intercoastal Waterway in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. She enjoyed watching the boats and parasails at Orange Beach City Park at Perdido Pass. But even with all the restaurants, her favorite meal was homemade cornbread, buttermilk and Vidalia onion, which she had on her birthday, by request. Joyce had a full and blessed life and was definitely ready for the Lord to call her Home.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home.
