Joyce Evans Brown, age 83, passed away peacefully February 5, 2021, after a long battle with dementia/Alzheimer's Disease. She was born March 22, 1937, in Phenix City, Alabama to Thomas Dewey Evans and Alma Bailey Evans. She married her high school sweetheart, Glover (Bill) Brown, Jr., in July, 1955 and he preceded her in death in 2015.
Joyce worked for Playtex International in Newnan until the birth of her only child, Gregory Trent Brown, and left the professional workforce to raise her son. She later resumed working outside the home as a volunteer at both Newnan and Coweta General Hospitals until she was offered a position with the Coweta County
School System Food Service Division, where she remained until her retirement as the cafeteria manager of the Moreland Elementary School.
In addition to working, Joyce enjoyed crafting and proved herself to be a talented artist with petal porcelain napkin rings, decorative baskets, pinecone nut wreaths,, as well as macrame' towel holders and purses (how 70's) all of which she joyfully gave as gifts to family and friends. She also excelled at cooking, baking, canning, and making many delicious meals, tasty treats, yummy jellies and jams from her own grape vine and fruit trees.
Joyce was a woman of quiet faith expressed through faithfulness, service and prayer. She was a longtime member of East Newnan Baptist Church and choir. Later while living under the care of her son and daughter in-law, she sang in the choir of First Baptist Atlanta. She was incredibly unselfish, a bold disciplinarian, and dedicated wife, mother, and daughter. In life and memory, she was a true example of Proverbs 31:10-31.
Joyce is survived by her son and his wife, Greg and Giselle Brown; her only grandchild, Lillian Brown; brother and sister in-law, Jerry and Carolyn Evans; and her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved deeply. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister and brother in-law, Sylvia and Rev. William Perry; brother and sister in-law, Barry and Ruth Evans.
A celebration of Joyce's life will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, at East Newnan Baptist Church. The Reverend Frank Powers will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church.
