Joseph Murray Dollar

June 18, 1933 — April 1, 2022

Mr. Joseph Murray Dollar, 88, of Greenville, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 1, 2022 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Born on June 18, 1933 in Meriwether County, Mr. Dollar was the son of the late Mattie Woodruff Dollar and Brown Murray Dollar. He attended Greenville High School, where he was an outstanding baseball player and was recruited by the Boston Red Sox, and was a U. S. Army Corporal in the Korean War. He married Shirley Childers in 1953 and had son, Eddie. He married Joyce Hamby, his wife of 63 years, and moved to Woodbury where he served as a policeman for 2 years. His family then moved to Marietta where he worked for Lockheed Martin for 40 years. Upon his retirement, He moved back to Greenville where he and his wife were members of Union Baptist Church. Joe was a hard worker who enjoyed hunting and providing for his family. Survivors include his son, Eddie Dollar and his wife Janie, of St. Marks; daughters, Wendy Durrett of Greenville and Wanda Snell and her husband Andy of Madison; sister Pat DeStefano of Decatur; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great- grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 4, at Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County. The Reverend Brian Haught will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
