MR. JOE BOWDEN
Mr. Joseph Meriwether "Mr. Joe" Bowden, 88, of Luthersville, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at his home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, at the graveside in the Luthersville Cemetery, with the Reverend Palmer Boykin officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 Tuesday night.
Mr. Bowden was born August 31, 1924, in Woodbury, son of the late Warren and Kathleen Evans Bowden. A lifelong resident of Meriwether County, he retired as an engineer from the Georgia Highway Department, owned and operated Bowden's Country Store in Luthersville for 20 years, and then was employed for several years by the Meriwether Tax Commissioner's Office. He had been a member of the Griffin Moose Lodge and was a lifelong Methodist, having been a member of Woodbury United Methodist Church and Luthersville United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent.
Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, Joan and Manley Henry; sons and daughters in-law, Scott and Deborah Bowden, Chris and Paula Bowden, all of Luthersville; grandchildren, Steven Reynolds, Neal Henry, Jessica Brooks, Mark Bowden, Bonnie Boyd, Shawn Ashmore, Scott Ashmore, and Kristin Ashmore; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jacqueline Askew Bowden; and his sisters and brothers, Martha Bowden, Mary "Biddie" Burke, Thomas Bowden, and Jack Bowden, who was his twin.
